About this clip

Dick Cavett Roasts Don Rickles - Friars Club (1970)

Dick Cavett was a television talk-show host and comedian known for his conversational wit and wide-ranging interviews. Don Rickles was the master insult comic whose rapid-fire put-downs made him a feared and beloved fixture at celebrity roasts.

In this clip, Dick Cavett turns that contrast into roast material, teasing Don Rickles with the affectionate exaggeration and show-business one-upmanship that defined the format.
