Groucho Marx Roasts Johnny Carson - Friars Club

Groucho Marx was the razor-tongued star of the Marx Brothers and television’s You Bet Your Life, famous for rapid wordplay, irreverence and the raised-eyebrow put-down. Johnny Carson was the longtime host of The Tonight Show, whose cool timing, monologues and celebrity interviews made him a dominant figure in late-night television.

In this clip, Groucho Marx turns that contrast into roast material, teasing Johnny Carson with the affectionate exaggeration and show-business one-upmanship that defined the format.
