About this clip

Steve Allen Roasts Johnny Carson - Friars Club

Steve Allen was a comedian, musician, writer and pioneering television host who helped establish the late-night talk-show format. Johnny Carson was the longtime host of The Tonight Show, whose cool timing, monologues and celebrity interviews made him a dominant figure in late-night television.

In this clip, Steve Allen turns that contrast into roast material, teasing Johnny Carson with the affectionate exaggeration and show-business one-upmanship that defined the format.
