About this clip

Jack Carter Roasts George Burns

Jack Carter was a fast-talking nightclub and television comic known for aggressive timing, topical jokes and a sharp-edged roast style. George Burns was a vaudeville veteran, comedian and actor whose dry timing, cigar and self-deprecating delivery kept him a star for generations.

In this clip, Jack Carter turns that contrast into roast material, teasing George Burns with the affectionate exaggeration and show-business one-upmanship that defined the format.
