LaWanda Page
Roasts George Burns

About this clip

LaWanda Page Roasts George Burns

LaWanda Page was a stand-up comic and actress best known as the outspoken Aunt Esther on Sanford and Son, with a fearless, cutting delivery. George Burns was a vaudeville veteran, comedian and actor whose dry timing, cigar and self-deprecating delivery kept him a star for generations.

In this clip, LaWanda Page turns that contrast into roast material, teasing George Burns with the affectionate exaggeration and show-business one-upmanship that defined the format.
