About this clip

Foster Brooks Roasts George Washington

Foster Brooks was a comic actor whose signature “lovable drunk” routine turned slurred dignity, delayed reactions and mock seriousness into a classic roast persona. George Washington, the first U.S. president, becomes the deliberately impossible historical target in this comic routine rather than a living roast guest.

In this clip, Foster Brooks turns that contrast into roast material, teasing George Washington with the affectionate exaggeration and show-business one-upmanship that defined the format.
