About this clip

Jack Carter Roasts George Washington

Jack Carter was a fast-talking nightclub and television comic known for aggressive timing, topical jokes and a sharp-edged roast style. George Washington, the first U.S. president, becomes the deliberately impossible historical target in this comic routine rather than a living roast guest.

In this clip, Jack Carter turns that contrast into roast material, teasing George Washington with the affectionate exaggeration and show-business one-upmanship that defined the format.
